An 800W plug-in solar kit is a complete, pre-matched solar PV system built around a single microinverter whose AC output stays inside the 800 VA limit that has applied in Great Britain since 27 August 2026. The panels above that inverter are deliberately larger — SocketPower kits carry 515W to 1,260W of DC panel capacity behind one 799 VA microinverter — and the kit connects to a suitable outdoor socket using the manufacturer-supplied lead and fused plug.

What an 800W-class plug-in solar kit is

A plug-in solar device is a complete, tested combination of panels, microinverter, connection lead and mounting hardware, supplied as one product. The “800W” in the category name describes the microinverter: in Great Britain the framework limits a plug-in solar device to 800 VA of inverter apparent output, and SocketPower kits are limited to 799 VA continuous AC output.

The panels sit above that ceiling on purpose. Rated DC capacity is measured in laboratory conditions, so a larger array reaches the inverter's ceiling earlier in the day and holds it longer in cloud. Setup, in three steps

Position the panels on the supplied mounting in a suitable, unshaded spot, work through the safety checks, then connect the manufacturer-supplied fused plug to a suitable outdoor socket. There is no work on your fixed wiring, and nothing in the connection path is substituted.

Before you order, check you have

  • You will need a suitable external socket at the installation location.
  • A suitable, unshaded installation position for the mounting hardware supplied with your kit.
  • Ballast sourced separately, appropriate to your site conditions and the supplier instructions.
  • Modern residual-current protection (RCD/RCBO) on the circuit serving that socket.
  • Any permission required by your tenancy, lease, landlord, freeholder, managing agent or relevant authority.

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth monitoring with a real-time smartphone app is part of every kit, so you can see generation without adding any extra hardware to the circuit.
